Insecurity: Ekiti launches Operation Comb the Bush to flush out criminals

Security agencies in Ekiti State have launched a joint operation known as Operation Comb the Bush to strengthen safety and prevent criminal activities across the state. The operation began on Monday amid growing concerns over banditry and kidnapping in neighbouring states, including Kwara, Kogi and Ondo.

The exercise involves personnel from the Military, the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Department of State Services and the Amotekun Corps. Speaking at the Police Headquarters in Ado Ekiti, the Commissioner of Police, Falade Adegoroye, said the move followed intelligence reports on increased pressure on criminal groups in nearby states and parts of northern Nigeria.

Mr Adegoroye explained that the operation will focus on bush combing, clearing criminal hideouts, visibility policing and raids in identified flashpoints, especially border communities. He added that the initiative is designed to prevent crimes such as kidnapping, cattle rustling, vandalism and attacks on public infrastructure and places of worship, while also protecting farmers returning to their fields during the rainy season.

The Commissioner urged officers to maintain professionalism and respect for human rights, while assuring residents of a responsible exercise. He commended Governor Biodun Oyebanji for supporting security agencies. Also speaking, the Special Adviser on Security Matters, Ebenezer Ogundana, said the operation reflects the government’s commitment to preventing threats and called on residents to support security agencies with credible information.
