Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has cleared the outstanding tuition and accommodation fees of 84 students stranded in Northern Cyprus, ending years of uncertainty and hardship.
The students were part of a foreign scholarship scheme initiated under former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. However, funding was suspended during the Ganduje administration, leaving many students evicted, locked out of classes, and unable to access their certificates.

The state government paid a total of ₦2.24 billion to Near East University, which has now released the academic documents. Among the beneficiaries are medical, engineering, pharmacy, and computer science graduates who completed their programmes but had been left in limbo.
Governor Yusuf has also directed that all returning students be employed by the Kano State civil service, describing them as valuable assets. The move has been widely praised by families and rights groups, with many hailing it as an act of leadership and compassion.
