Lagos Government Denies Role in Alleged Peter Obi Family Property Demolition

The Lagos State Government has denied involvement in the demolition of a property in Ikeja said to belong to the brother of Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi. In a statement on Thursday, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, said neither the Lagos State Building Control Agency nor any other state agency carried out the demolition.

The state government described Obi’s claim as baseless and urged the public to disregard the allegations. It stated that the administration remains committed to the rule of law and will not tolerate any act of lawlessness. An investigation has been ordered to determine the facts surrounding the incident.

The directive for the investigation was given to the Permanent Secretary, Office of Urban Development, Arc. Gbolahan Owodunni Oki, who has been asked to work with the Building Control Agency to clarify the circumstances of the reported demolition.

Peter Obi, in a post on his official X handle, condemned the alleged demolition, saying it was carried out without a court order or permit. He added that the incident highlights growing lawlessness, raising concerns for the safety of investors and the rule of law in the country.
