The Lagos State Government has sealed 13 markets in the city for violating environmental regulations, particularly concerning illegal waste disposal. The affected markets include well-known locations such as Ketu and Mile 12, which have faced repeated violations of the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law of 2017.
Tokunbo Wahab, the State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, confirmed the closures took place late Thursday night. Wahab emphasised that the action was necessary to protect public health and restore order in the city’s increasingly congested public spaces.
