Lagos Man Arrested for Turning Home into Illegal Slaughterhouse

Lagos State authorities have arrested a man in Iju Station, Ifako-Ijaiye, for illegally converting his residence into a makeshift abattoir. The operation came to light following a tip-off from a concerned citizen after the recent closure of the Oko-Oba abattoir in Agege.

Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed the arrest in a statement posted on his official X account. A video attached to the post showed the suspect, speaking in Yoruba, threatening neighbours as officers from the Kick Against Indiscipline, KAI, unit took him into custody.

The makeshift facility at No. 12 Alfred Williams Street has since been sealed, with officials citing serious environmental and public health concerns. Mr. Wahab reaffirmed the state’s zero-tolerance stance on environmental infractions and urged residents to continue reporting illegal activities that endanger their communities.
