President Tinubu Launches Agricultural Mechanisation Drive

President Bola Tinubu says his administration is delivering on its promise to transform Nigeria into a global agricultural powerhouse. Speaking at the launch of the Renewed Hope Agricultural Mechanisation Programme in Abuja, the President said the initiative will modernise farming, boost productivity, and attract more young Nigerians into agriculture.

The programme includes over 2,000 advanced tractors, 50 bulldozers, 12 mobile workshops, and more than 9,000 specialised farming implements. Tinubu said these resources would enable mechanisation service providers to create jobs and ease farming processes, describing the reforms as a move to make agriculture “more sexy” for the youth.

He added that international partners, including Belarus, are supporting Nigeria with skills training for young people in machine repairs, fabrication, and modern agricultural practices. Tinubu said this would help drive year-round cultivation and reduce seasonal shortages.

The President called on stakeholders to use the equipment efficiently and promised oversight and accountability in its deployment. He praised the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security for its role in stabilising the food system and addressing the current food crisis.
