The Lagos State Police Command has captured one of the state’s most wanted criminals, Mr. Wasiu Akinwande, also known as ‘Olori Eso’, bringing a decade-long manhunt to an end.
The 44-year-old suspected cult leader and contract killer was arrested on 20 June in a covert operation by the Command’s Tactical Squad at a hideout in Agbado, Ogun State.
Mr. Akinwande is believed to have orchestrated a reign of terror across Mushin and nearby areas since 2009, with links to multiple murders, kidnappings, robberies, and cult-related violence.

A follow-up search at his residence yielded a cache of weapons, including AK-47s, pump-action rifles, live ammunition, walkie-talkies, and nine international passports under various aliases.
Police say the suspect has confessed and has been identified by several bereaved families.
Commissioner of Police, CP Owohunwa Jimoh, praised the operation as a breakthrough and ordered further investigations to dismantle the wider criminal network.
