A report by Women in Journalism Africa says many Nigerian journalists are owed months of salaries and are struggling to meet basic living costs.
The findings, released on Thursday ahead of International Workers’ Day, are based on interviews with 170 journalists across 50 media organisations in 19 states between January and April 2026.
The report says workers face delayed or unpaid wages, low pay, and poor welfare conditions, with some owed salaries for up to a year, while women journalists also report discrimination and harassment.

WIJAFRICA says the situation reflects a breakdown of labour standards and has called for stronger enforcement of labour laws, improved welfare protections, and urgent reforms to support the media industry.
