Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, has warned that his players will play like beasts against Atletico Madrid in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final, as the club aims to reach the final for the first time in twenty years. Arteta’s side earned a one-all draw in the first leg in Madrid last week, leaving the tie finely poised ahead of Tuesday’s match at the Emirates Stadium in London.
The Gunners have never won the Champions League, with their only final appearance ending in a 2 – 1 defeat against Barcelona in 2006, and they lost to Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals of the competition in 2025.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, the eve of the decisive European clash, Arteta said his team will take to the pitch as beasts and enjoy the moment. The Spanish manager expressed his excitement and said he could feel the energy among the team and the club’s supporters, describing it as the moment they had wanted to live together for twenty years.

He stressed that the club has worked hard to return to this position and that the players are hungry to get through to the final, where either Paris Saint-Germain or Bayern Munich will be waiting on May 30 in Budapest. Arteta will be boosted by the availability of captain Martin Odegaard, who missed Saturday’s Premier League win over Fulham, and German forward Kai Havertz, who has returned from a knee injury that kept him out of the previous two games.
