Arsenal edge West Ham after VAR drama, inches closer to Premier League title

Arsenal have moved five points clear at the top of the Premier League after a 1-0 victory over West Ham at the London Stadium, decided amid late VAR controversy on Sunday. Leandro Trossard scored the only goal of the match in the 83rd minute, his deflected effort proving decisive in a tight encounter.

The match ended in drama when West Ham had a stoppage-time equaliser ruled out by VAR. Callum Wilson appeared to have levelled after capitalising on a mistake by goalkeeper David Raya, but the goal was disallowed for a foul in the build-up, leaving West Ham players and fans protesting the decision.

Arsenal had struggled to break down their London rivals for much of the game, with West Ham coming close through Valentin Castellanos and Mateus Fernandes. Goalkeeper David Raya made key saves to keep Arsenal level before Trossard’s late strike secured the win.

The result moves Mikel Arteta’s side five points ahead of second-placed Manchester City, who beat Brentford 3-0 on Saturday. Arsenal now need three more wins from their remaining fixtures to clinch the Premier League title.
