MT Tura II, the vessel recently impounded over alleged oil theft, was destroyed yesterday on the Warri River by the military with assistance from the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC.
The NSCDC and a private security firm that combats illegal bunkering, boarded the vessel and pulled out all the tubes before setting it on fire.
Captain Warredi Enisuoh, Executive Director of the private firm explained that setting the vessel on fire was done to enable the military to track the location of the vessel from the thick smoke of the fire, in order to blow it up with ordinance.
