At least 17 Palestinians were killed and dozens wounded on Tuesday after Israeli forces opened fire near a humanitarian aid distribution point in central Gaza, according to local health officials.
The shooting occurred near Wadi Gaza as thousands of displaced civilians gathered at a site run by the U.S.-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, GHF. Medics said the wounded were taken to Al-Awda Hospital in Nuseirat and Al-Quds Hospital in Gaza City.
The Israeli military said it had fired warning shots at individuals it described as ‘suspects’ posing a threat, claiming the incident occurred hundreds of metres from the aid centre and before it opened.

The GHF confirmed the shooting took place hours before operations began at the site, referring further inquiries to the military.
The United Nations has raised concerns over the aid model used, with Philippe Lazzarini, the U.N. Palestinian refugee agency, UNRWA’s chief, condemning the system as dangerous, discriminatory, and increasingly deadly for desperate civilians.
