The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons has declared Nigerian rapper Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, wanted over alleged offences including rape, cyberbullying, and cyberstalking. The agency made the announcement on Friday via its official Instagram account, urging anyone with credible information on his whereabouts to come forward.
In response, the rapper issued a statement denying any wrongdoing, describing the controversial video that triggered the allegations as a clout-chasing stunt to promote his new single ‘Village Girl’. He apologised for any offence caused but insisted he had never engaged in sexual misconduct or predation.

Despite his claims, civil society groups and legal experts have raised concerns over the implications of using sensitive topics like sexual abuse as entertainment. They warned that such behaviour could normalise harmful attitudes in society.
This development comes five months after Speed Darlington was released from detention following his arrest in November 2024 over a separate controversy involving fellow artist Burna Boy. He is currently out on ₦20 million bail and has filed a ₦300 million lawsuit against the Inspector-General of Police for alleged rights violations.
