NCAA Grounds Rano Air Flight After Mid-Air Engine Scare

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority has grounded a Rano Air aircraft following an engine failure mid-flight. The plane, registration 5N-BZY, was en route from Sokoto to Kano when smoke was detected in both the cabin and cockpit.

According to NCAA spokesperson Michael Achimugu, the pilot initiated emergency protocols and landed the aircraft safely. Passengers briefly used oxygen masks before the smoke cleared.

The NCAA has launched an investigation and ordered the aircraft grounded.

A rescue flight was cancelled, already committed to another route.

Online, passengers expressed alarm, with one claiming the same aircraft was cleared to fly again before returning mid-air.

Authorities reaffirmed their zero-tolerance approach to safety breaches.
