Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has signalled a shift in strategy in the ongoing Gaza offensive, promising an intensive military operation aimed at decisively defeating Hamas.
In a statement posted online, Mr Netanyahu said the campaign would differ from previous incursions, with Israeli forces remaining in contested areas rather than conducting short-term raids. He added that Gaza’s civilian population would be relocated “for its own protection,” though no details were given.

The announcement followed unanimous cabinet approval to escalate military action and place Israeli forces in charge of aid distribution across the besieged territory, where over 2.3 million Palestinians remain trapped.
Hamas, meanwhile, has rejected any agreement without a full ceasefire and Israeli withdrawal. Senior figure Mahmoud Mardawi warned that attempts to extract concessions through violence would not succeed.
More than 52,000 people have been killed in Gaza, including thousands of children.
