Senior Advocate Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya has been elected the 33rd President of the Nigerian Bar Association, becoming the second woman to lead the body in its history.
In a social media message thanking her campaign team and members of the association, the president-elect pledged “to serve every member of the Nigerian Bar Association with integrity, humility, courage, and accountability.”
Badejo-Okusanya secured 12,317 votes (47.18%) to defeat fellow SANs Lateef Akangbe (7,934 votes, 30.39%) and Olumuyiwa Akinboro (5,855 votes, 22.43%), out of 26,106 total votes cast. She begins a two-year term, succeeding outgoing president Afam Osigwe.
The election, held Saturday, was delayed by a cyberattack that forced the Electoral Committee to rebuild and migrate its voting infrastructure to a more secure server. Osigwe said the process withstood deliberate attempts at sabotage, calling it a “wake-up call” for stronger cybersecurity.
Badejo-Okusanya was absent from the announcement due to a flight delay; her campaign team said she remains committed to reconciling with rival candidates. Other elected officers include Oghenero Okoro as First Vice-President and Afam Okeke as General Secretary.
