The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency says it has dismantled a transnational drug trafficking syndicate operating along the Togo-Benin Republic-Nigeria corridor, intercepting 1.63 million tramadol pills concealed in two trailers bound for Kano.
NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi said operatives tracked and intercepted the trucks along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on July 2 and July 4, recovering 853,000 and 777,000 pills respectively from fabricated compartments beneath the cargo floors. Drivers Jabir Kabiru and Muhammed Nuhu, both 22, were arrested. Investigators linked the trucks to a third vehicle intercepted on June 21 carrying 558,900 pills of the same drug.
In separate operations, NDLEA seized 4.7 kilograms of synthetic cannabis shipped from Canada through Lagos airport, arresting a Lagos businesswoman and three others. An 80-year-old man was arrested in Rivers State with 800 grams of skunk, while a couple was arrested in Benin City after officers recovered over 400 kilograms of cannabis and synthetic cannabis from their warehouse. A Chadian woman and her Nigerian accomplice were also arrested in Lagos, linked to 50,000 tramadol pills seized in Kogi State.
NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Marwa commended the efforts of the officers in ongoing drug control operations across the country, urging them to remain vigilant.
