Nigeria’s Trade Volume Hits ₦34.8 Trillion In First Quarter

Nigeria’s total merchandise trade reached ₦34.78 trillion in the first quarter of 2026, according to new figures released by the National Bureau of Statistics, NBS.

The report shows that total exports rose to ₦21.16 trillion during the period, representing a 2.77 per cent increase from the ₦20.59 trillion recorded in the first quarter of 2025. Exports also grew by 11.63 per cent compared with the fourth quarter of 2025.

Meanwhile, total imports declined to ₦13.61 trillion in the first quarter of 2026. This represents an 18.17 per cent drop from ₦16.64 trillion recorded in the same period last year and a 21.05 per cent decrease from the ₦17.25 trillion posted in the previous quarter.

The NBS says the latest figures reflect continued growth in exports alongside a sharp reduction in imports during the first three months of the year.
