Nigerian Army Brokers Peace Between Feuding Ethnic Groups In Taraba

The Nigerian Army has brokered a peace agreement between Tiv and Fulani communities in Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State, following renewed tensions and long-standing communal disputes. The peace pact was facilitated by Commander 6 Brigade and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, at a meeting held in Jalingo.

The dialogue brought together traditional rulers, community elders, and stakeholders at the 6 Brigade Headquarters to chart a peaceful path forward. Brigadier General Uwa condemned the cycle of violence and stressed that justice must always be pursued within the framework of the law.

In a statement, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Captain Olubodunde Oni, urged participants to become ambassadors of peace and development in their communities. The parties pledged to avoid shielding criminals, support security agencies with timely intelligence, and embrace regular dialogue to prevent further conflict.

Chairman of Gassol Local Government, Abubakar Usman, praised the Army’s efforts, particularly the leadership of Brigadier General Uwa, for promoting lasting peace. The meeting concluded with the formal signing of a peace accord and a joint commitment to uphold the resolutions reached.
