NMA Threatens ₦1bn Lawsuit Over Alleged EFCC Assault on Doctors

The Nigerian Medical Association in Akwa Ibom State has threatened to sue the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for ₦1 billion over the alleged assault of doctors and staff at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital. The association made the threat after an emergency meeting held virtually on Tuesday.

The NMA says EFCC operatives stormed the hospital and arrested a cardiothoracic surgeon, Professor Eyo Ekpe, along with other staff, alleging that the officers used force, tear gas and gunshots during the operation. It also claimed medical personnel were assaulted and phones were seized.
