Former Nollywood actress Grace Bassey, once known to fans as Belinda Effah, has formally joined the United States Navy, marking a dramatic career shift from screen to service.
The 35-year-old, who rose to prominence in the 2005 television drama ‘Shallow Waters’, successfully completed U.S. Navy boot camp and, in the process, secured her American citizenship.

In a message shared on social media, Bassey reflected on the transition, describing her journey from Nigeria to the U.S. as one that demanded resilience and deeper purpose.
She dedicated the milestone to her late father, Naval Commander Asido Bassey Effah, describing his memory as a guiding force in her new path.
Bassey, who changed her name following what she described as a divine encounter, said the decision to serve was rooted in gratitude and discipline.
She shared photographs and a video of her graduation ceremony, drawing praise from fans and colleagues alike.
