Opposition Heavyweights Gather in Abuja for ADC Coalition Launch

Top politicians from Nigeria’s leading opposition parties converged Monday at the Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja, for the unveiling of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a new coalition platform.

Among those in attendance were former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, ex-Kaduna governor Nasir el-Rufai, and former ministers Rotimi Amaechi and Rauf Aregbesola—the latter serving as interim chairman of the coalition.

Also present were Senators Dino Melaye, Ireti Kingibe, Gabriel Suswam, and media figure Dele Momodu.

Former Senate President David Mark led coalition members into the hall.

The event, initially slated for the Wells Carlton Hotel, was relocated after a last-minute cancellation citing “internal compliance.”

The coalition says it aims to reshape Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of 2027.
