The coordinator of a Made-in-Nigeria project office accused by anti-graft officials of being fake has pushed back, posting documents he says prove his appointment was genuine.
George Nwabueze shared what he called an appointment letter on LinkedIn over the weekend. The letter, dated October last year, appoints him National Coordinator of the Made in Nigeria Project Office, under the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. It was signed by Nadungu Gagare, a permanent secretary in that office.
Nwabueze also posted a letter from 2010, which he says shows the initiative has existed for sixteen years. The authenticity of the shared documents are unverified.
His defence follows an order last week by President Tinubu for Nwabueze’s arrest and the suspension of three permanent secretaries — including Gagare, the same official who signed his letter. The anti-corruption agency says the office was a fictitious government structure, discovered during a wider investigation into another fake agency.
