Plateau Governor Apologises Over Zikke Massacre

Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has apologised to residents of Bassa Local Government Area following Monday’s deadly attack on Zikke community, which left over 50 people dead and homes destroyed.

Speaking at the palace of the Paramount Ruler of Miango, the governor expressed deep regret over the failure of government and security agencies to protect lives and properties. He called on residents to support security operations by sharing vital intelligence.

Governor Mutfwang visited the affected community alongside security chiefs and members of the state executive council, where he met with grieving families and described the ongoing violence as genocidal. He said more than 64 communities in the state have been taken over by armed men.

Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu has ordered security agencies to apprehend those behind the attacks, which come just two weeks after similar violence in neighbouring Bokkos. The crisis in Plateau State has long been attributed to farmer-herder conflicts, but officials say the latest wave is more coordinated and deadly.
