Plateau Wedding Attack Death Toll Rises to 13 as Northern Governors Forum Condemns Attack

The death toll from Friday’s attack on wedding-bound travellers in Plateau State has risen to 13. This follows the recovery of four additional bodies previously reported missing and the death of one injured victim at Mangu General Hospital.

The victims, including men, women and children, were travelling in an 18-seater Ahmadu Bello University bus from Zaria to Qua’an Pan LGA when they were ambushed in Mangun community around 8pm. Their vehicle was set ablaze during the attack.

Nine victims were buried on Saturday in Mangu, while the remaining four were interred in Qua’an Pan. Religious leaders say the decision to bury some of the dead in Plateau was to help calm tensions in their home communities.

The Northern Governors’ Forum has condemned the killings, describing them as barbaric. Forum chairman and Gombe Governor, Inuwa Yahaya, urged swift justice and called for calm and unity, while security has been stepped up in key locations across Jos.
