The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of an assistant superintendent of police, Usman Nuhu, over the killing of a 28-year-old suspect in Effurun. The incident, which occurred on Sunday, drew widespread attention after a video surfaced online showing the restrained suspect being shot at close range by an officer in plain clothes.
Police authorities say the officer has since been transferred to the Force Headquarters in Abuja for disciplinary proceedings. The command described the shooting as a violation of established regulations and assured the public that appropriate action is being taken in line with police procedures.
According to the Nigeria Police Force, the deceased, identified as Mene Ogidi, had been apprehended while attempting to send a parcel allegedly containing a pistol loaded with four rounds of ammunition. Officers attached to the Effurun Area Command had responded to intelligence from a motor park along the Warri Sapele Expressway before the fatal shooting occurred during efforts to take the suspect into custody.

The police leadership has ordered the immediate transfer of the officer and his team for further investigation and possible prosecution. Authorities also extended condolences to the family of the deceased and reaffirmed a zero-tolerance stance on extrajudicial actions and abuse of authority, while urging the public to remain calm as the process continues.
