Pope Leo XIV has welcomed the agreement reached between the United States and Iran to end their recent conflict, describing it as the result of encouraging dialogue and negotiation efforts.
Speaking during his weekly audience at the Vatican on Wednesday, the Pope expressed gratitude to those involved in the talks and said he hoped the agreement would strengthen trust, security and stability across the Middle East through greater cooperation between nations and peoples.
The United States and Iran announced the deal earlier this week, bringing an end to hostilities between the two countries.
The 70-year-old pontiff also appealed for renewed dialogue to end the war in Ukraine. He spoke of the suffering caused by the conflict, citing civilian casualties, the deaths of rescue workers and the destruction of churches and cultural sites, and offered prayers for a just and lasting peace.
