Protesters have blocked all entry points into Mokwa, Niger State, since Saturday night, stranding travellers along the busy Mokwa-Bida highway and demanding the rescue of residents they say were abducted by bandits.
Protest leader Saliu Mohammed claims 15 people were recently kidnapped from the community, and accuses security agencies of failing to rescue them. That figure has not been independently verified. Mohammed says the blockade will continue until the victims are freed.
Commuters described hours of delay, with one traveller saying she’d been stranded five hours on her journey from Ilorin to Abuja. As of Sunday late morning, the highway remained blocked, with no confirmation yet from police or security agencies on the alleged abductions.
