The Nigerian Air Force says an airstrike in the Sambisa Forest area of Borno State has killed nine Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters, including a key commander responsible for facilitating the movement and protection of senior members of the group.
According to spokesperson Ehimen Ejodame, the operation occurred on Saturday, August 8, following credible intelligence on the activities and movement of suspected terrorists within the forest.
Among those reportedly killed is Abu Khalid Al Muhajir, whom the Airforce described as a prominent ISWAP commander, stating that his death posed a significant operational setback for ISWAP.
