Nigerian artistes dominated the ninth All Africa Music Awards, AFRIMA, held in Lagos on Sunday night, taking major honours across several categories. Rema emerged as one of the biggest winners, claiming three awards including Artiste of the Year, Best Male Artiste in Western Africa and Best African Artiste in RnB and Soul.
Burna Boy won Album of the Year for ‘No Sign of Weakness’ and also shared the Best African Collaboration award with Shallipopi for the song ‘Laho’, which was also named Song of the Year. Yemi Alade picked up Best Soundtrack in a Movie, Series or Documentary for ‘You Are’ from the animated series ‘Iyanu’.
In other categories, Phyno was named Best African Artiste in African Hip-Hop, while Tanzania’s Juma Jux won Best Male Artiste in Eastern Africa. Emerging stars were also recognised, with Qing Madi crowned Most Promising Artiste of the Year and Chella winning African Fans’ Favourite.

AFRIMA organisers said the awards reflected the diversity and growing global influence of African music, with winners drawn from across the continent. The ceremony brought together artistes, producers and industry leaders to celebrate achievements over the past year.
