Reps Give Rivers Sole Administrator 48-Hour Ultimatum Over N1.48trn Budget Details

The House of Representatives Ad hoc Committee on Rivers State has given a 48-hour deadline to the state’s sole administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd), to provide detailed breakdowns of key items in the proposed N1.48 trillion 2025 budget.

Committee Chairman and House Majority Leader, Julius Ihonvbere, issued the ultimatum during a budget defence session in Abuja.

Lawmakers raised concerns over several allocations, including N24 billion earmarked for CCTV at the Government House, N30 billion for gunboats, and N23 billion in contingency reserves—demanding full justifications.

The committee also queried the omission of the Medium Term Expenditure Framework, MTEF, a legal prerequisite for budget proposals.

Additionally, questions were raised over the use of state funds on federal projects without formal agreements or refund mechanisms.

Representative Ihonvbere insisted full transparency is non-negotiable in the handling of public funds.
