Elders and leaders of thought in Rivers State have welcomed the reconciliation between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and former governor Nyesom Wike, describing it as a long-overdue step towards restoring peace.
In a statement signed by former Deputy Governor Gabriel Toby, the forum said it had consistently pushed for dialogue but had to eventually appeal to President Bola Tinubu to take charge of the peace process after initial efforts failed.

While some supporters of Governor Fubara have criticised the deal—citing lack of representation from his camp—the elders urged all sides to see the moment as a turning point.
They described the political crisis as a dark chapter that hurt the soul of Rivers State and called for the lifting of any State of Emergency measures.
The statement concluded with an appeal for unity, urging Rivers people to embrace peace, mutual respect, and democratic governance.
