Rotimi Amaechi Refutes Claims He Was Offered ADC Vice Presidential Ticket

Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has denied reports that he was offered the vice presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). He said this during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo.

Amaechi explained that before he released his statement rejecting the outcome of the ADC presidential primary, he and fellow aspirant Mohammed Hayatudeen held consultations, and they both agreed on the approach. He said he met with the ADC national chairman, David Mark, but their discussion was about something entirely different from what has been reported, and after shaking hands, he left.

Amaechi dismissed claims that he walked out after being asked to run for vice president, saying that no one has ever proposed that role to him because people understand his value and know how he would react. On Monday, Amaechi participated in the ADC presidential primary alongside Atiku Abubakar and Hayatudeen, finishing second behind Abubakar. However, Amaechi rejected the result, alleging irregularities and voter disenfranchisement, and stated that the announced figures were fabricated and inconsistent with the party’s values.

Former Vice President Abubakar met with Amaechi on Thursday in an effort to unify the aspirants ahead of the presidential election, with Abubakar saying their meeting focused on the mission to rescue Nigeria. Amaechi’s remarks come amid the controversy surrounding the ADC presidential primary, which has left the party facing internal divisions.
