The President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Akinteye Babatunde, on Friday announced the mobilisation of all NANS structures and allied groups for a solidarity and advocacy rally in Oyo State to protest the abduction of students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area.
In a letter inviting NANS branches nationwide, Akinteye described the prolonged captivity of the victims as heartbreaking and intolerable, insisting that students across Nigeria cannot keep quiet while innocent pupils and teachers remain in kidnappers’ hands. The solidarity movement aims to demand immediate action from security agencies and authorities to secure the release of the abducted students and teachers.
According to the letter, the rally will include visits to the affected schools: Community High School, Ahoro Esiele; L.A. Primary School, Ahoro Esiele; and Yawota Baptist Nursery and Primary School. The association will also visit the Oyo State Commissioner of Police and the Director of the Department of State Services before conducting a peaceful walk against insecurity in Ibadan. The solidarity and advocacy movement is scheduled for Monday, June 1, 2026.

Akinteye noted that two weeks have passed since the cruel attack, and it is shocking that the abducted individuals have not yet been rescued. He called on all NANS structures, sister unions, stakeholders, and leaders to join the movement, stating that silence is no longer an option at this critical juncture.
