Russia says it is expanding its economic and military ties across Africa, as part of a push to step into a geopolitical vacuum left by Western withdrawals following military coups in the region.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Moscow aims to boost economic, investment, and security cooperation with African countries.

He added that Russia’s growing role includes the newly formed Africa Corps, which replaces the Wagner mercenary group in Mali and focuses more on training and protection than direct combat.
Mali has pivoted to Russia for military and political support, after cutting ties with France in recent years.
