The Publicity Secretary of the Lagos State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Hakeem Amode, alongside several party stalwarts, formally defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, on Monday.
Speaking at a press conference in Ikeja, he cited deepening internal crises, poor leadership, and lack of cohesion within the PDP as key reasons for the departure.

Describing the move as a significant turning point, Mr. Amode said years of loyalty had yielded limited results, prompting the need for a fresh political direction.
The defection follows the earlier switch of former PDP governorship candidate Olajide “Jandor” Adediran to the APC—an act Mr. Amode called ‘inspirational.’
Former PDP Deputy Chairman Chief Ola Apena and other defecting candidates expressed frustration over the party’s dwindling relevance.
They pledged support for President Bola Tinubu and vowed to work with the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
