Nigeria’s Finance Minister says removing the petrol subsidy saved the country ₦15.8 trillion.
Taiwo Oyedele gave the figures on Wednesday, presenting a scorecard on the Tinubu administration’s economic reforms. The savings covered June 2023 to December 2025.
Of that amount, ₦5.4 trillion went to the federal government while ₦10.4 trillion went to states and local governments.
Oyedele said the government also borrowed ₦11.9 trillion in the same period. But added that the figure would have been much higher without the reforms.
Total government spending in the period was ₦30.64 trillion. Of that, ₦9.39 trillion went to wage increases for workers, and ₦9.37 trillion went to paying external debt.
