The Allied Peoples Movement has won all 20 local government chairmanship seats and 319 of 323 councillorship seats in Monday’s Bauchi State local government election. Governor Bala Mohammed described the poll as peaceful and credible.
BASIEC Chairperson Jummai Abubakar declared the results after voting, counting and collation, with four other parties — the Social Democratic Party, National Rescue Movement, Zenith Labour Party and Young Progressive Party — each picking up a single ward seat. A coalition of opposition parties, including the SDP, had earlier announced a boycott of the election, alleging the process violated the state’s 2026 electoral law.
