Defending champions Nigeria face Egypt this Wednesday in a decisive Group C finale at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, needing a result to reach the quarter-finals after a rocky group stage.
The Super Falcons suffered a shock 3-2 opening defeat to debutants Malawi before recovering with a battling 1-0 win over Zambia, Asisat Oshoala scoring the winner. That victory came at a cost: defender Oluwatosin Demehin was sent off for fouling Barbra Banda, and midfielder Jennifer Echegini picked up a second yellow card — both now suspended for the Egypt clash.
Egypt sit bottom of the group without a point, having lost 6-0 to Zambia and 3-1 to Malawi, but Nigeria isn’t taking the result for granted. Coach Justin Madugu must reshuffle his defence and midfield to cover the two suspensions.
