In a statement of what it terms “profound regret,” the United Kingdom has voiced its concerns over Israel’s proposed move to bar the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, known as UNRWA, from operating within its territories.
The U.S. State Department has echoed similar concerns, indicating it has communicated to Israel its deep unease regarding the potential legislation aimed at prohibiting UNRWA’s activities within Israel and occupied East Jerusalem.
The bill, currently under consideration in Israel’s parliament, could lead to UNRWA’s expulsion from its headquarters and offices, significantly disrupting the agency’s ability to deliver essential services such as healthcare and education to millions of Palestinian refugees across the region.
