The United Nations has accused Israel of committing “genocidal acts” in Gaza by systematically destroying women’s healthcare facilities and using sexual violence as a war strategy.
The Independent International Commission of Inquiry reported on Thursday that Israel had “intentionally attacked and destroyed” Gaza’s main fertility centre while blocking essential medicines for pregnancies and neonatal care. The commission concluded that this amounted to “two categories of genocidal acts” during Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, which followed Hamas’s October 7, 2023, attacks on Israel.

The report highlighted the destruction of Al-Basma IVF Centre in December 2023, where about 4,000 embryos were lost. It found no credible evidence that the building was used for military purposes.
Israel rejected the report’s findings as “unfounded allegations,” while Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the investigation, calling its claims “absurd.”
