The Israeli military has said it is investigating allegations that its soldiers used Palestinian civilians as human shields during operations in Gaza.
It is the first time the military has acknowledged there is ‘reasonable suspicion’ that troops may have compelled civilians to take part in military activities.

Reports in US media have previously alleged that Israeli forces forced civilians in Gaza to enter potentially booby-trapped buildings and tunnels to reduce risks to their own personnel.
The extent of the practice remains unclear, though testimony from an Israeli soldier and several Palestinian civilians last year suggested it was widespread, particularly in northern Gaza, Gaza City, Khan Younis, and Rafah.
