Union Bank seeks jail term for OPay directors over contempt

Union Bank of Nigeria has asked a Federal High Court in Lagos to jail six senior officials of OPay Digital Services Limited for alleged disobedience of court orders. The application was filed under contempt proceedings, with the court yet to fix a hearing date.

The bank listed those cited as the company’s managing director, Gotring Dauda Wutrika, and directors Wang Dan, Wen Mingxuan, Duyao Huang Simon, Ozoemena Chijioke, and Abass Rashidat Motunrayo. It alleges they failed to comply with preservatory and disclosure orders issued on March 26, 2025, and a reversal order made on April 15, 2025.

According to the filing, the court had directed OPay to place restrictions on accounts linked to disputed transfers and to disclose details of affected accounts, as well as reverse recovered funds. Union Bank claims the company was duly served but did not comply with the directives.
