FG increases allowances for civil servants

The Federal Government has approved an increase in allowances and welfare benefits for civil servants across Nigeria. The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Esther Walson-Jack, announced the decision on Friday in Abuja.

She said the review affects workers under key salary structures, including the Consolidated Public Service and Research and Allied Institutions frameworks, with adjustments covering duty tour allowance, estacode, and book allowance. The changes are expected to improve earnings across all grade levels.

The government also approved full duty tour allowance for training programmes, regardless of travel, and introduced an exit benefit scheme for retirees under the contributory pension system. The scheme provides 100 percent of a retiree’s annual emoluments in addition to pension, effective from January 1, 2026.
