The United States has commended Nigeria for accelerating the prosecution of terrorism related cases following the conviction of 386 suspects in recent mass trials. In a statement issued on Sunday, Massad Boulos, United States Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs, described the development as a major step toward strengthening accountability and justice.
Massad Boulos said the convictions reflect Nigeria’s commitment to addressing cases that had faced significant delays in the courts. He noted that timely and transparent legal processes are essential in confronting extremism and reinforcing public trust in judicial institutions.
Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, had earlier disclosed that the Federal Government secured 386 convictions out of 508 terrorism related cases brought before the courts. The trials represent one of the largest coordinated efforts by Nigerian authorities to clear a backlog of cases that had lingered for years.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Sanctions Committee earlier released a list of 48 individuals and entities allegedly linked to terrorism financing. Those named include Simon Ekpa and Tukur Mamu, as well as groups such as the Indigenous People of Biafra, Ansarul Sudan, and the Islamic State West Africa Province. The development comes amid renewed efforts by the Federal Government to strengthen enforcement against terrorism and extremist networks.
