Tensions have escalated in the Middle East after the United States seized an Iranian-flagged cargo ship near the Strait of Hormuz. United States President Donald Trump confirmed the action, saying the vessel attempted to pass a United States naval blockade, a move that has drawn strong reactions from Tehran.
Iranian authorities have condemned the seizure, describing it as a violation of international law. Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, warned that the country would use all available means to protect its national interests and security, while military officials also signalled that a response is being considered.
Analysts, including Zahra Kharazmi of the University of Tehran and Hassan Ahmadian, say the blockade and seizure could be viewed as acts of war, raising fears of a rapid escalation in the region. Iran has also indicated it may reconsider its participation in diplomatic engagements with the United States amid the rising tensions.

The developments have already impacted global markets, with oil prices rising sharply and investors reacting to uncertainty around the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, separate incidents involving Israeli military actions in southern Lebanon and reported violence in the West Bank have added to concerns over broader regional instability
