Amnesty International says at least 150 people, including children, have died at a military-controlled detention facility in Kwara State. The group alleges the victims were among about 1,500 displaced pastoralists held at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Yikpata after fleeing violence in parts of the state.
In a report released on Thursday, Amnesty International said detainees faced overcrowding, poor sanitation, and limited access to food and healthcare, leading to malnutrition and deaths. It called for an urgent, independent investigation, describing the conditions as unlawful and in violation of human rights. Survivors were also quoted as saying several children and pregnant women died in the camp.

The Kwara State Government has denied operating any such facility, saying it has no control over the camp. The Defence Headquarters also rejected the allegations, stating that the location in question is not under military authority and advising that enquiries be directed to the appropriate agencies.
As of Thursday night, the military had yet to issue a full formal response to the allegations.
