17 House of Reps Members Defect to NDC

At least 17 members of the House of Representatives have defected from the African Democratic Congress to the Nigerian Democratic Congress. The defections were announced during plenary on Tuesday, 5 May 2026.

Among those who switched parties are Yusuf Datti, Uchenna Okonkwo, Thaddeus Attah, Lilian Orogbu, and Afam Ogene. In a separate move, Leke Abejide defected from the African Democratic Congress to the All Progressives Congress.

The latest developments come amid a wave of political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections. They follow the recent defection of former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and former Kano State Governor Musa Kwankwaso to the Nigerian Democratic Congress.

The two opposition figures joined the party on Sunday after a meeting with its leadership, led by Senator Seriake Dickson, who described the Nigerian Democratic Congress as stable and rapidly growing.
