28 People Killed in Ethiopia Bus Crash

At least 28 people have been killed after a bus plunged into a ravine in northern Ethiopia on Monday, according to local authorities.

Officials said the vehicle was travelling from Dessie in the Amhara region to the capital, Addis Ababa, when it went off the road and fell into a ravine estimated to be about 100 metres deep. They added that “many others” were injured, but did not give a precise figure.

The survivors were taken to nearby medical facilities, while an investigation has been launched into the cause of the crash.

Road accidents are frequent in Ethiopia, Africa’s second most populous country, where poor road conditions are widely reported. Authorities said the total number of passengers on board the bus has not yet been confirmed.
