Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, says 53 suspects have been arrested following a series of deadly assaults in Benue and Plateau states.
Briefing journalists in Abuja, Mr Egbetokun described the June 13 attack on Yelewata community in Benue State as a “coordinated act of terror,” confirming that 47 people were killed and 27 injured in the incident.

Twenty-six suspects have been detained over the Yelewata killings, while 22 others are being held in connection with separate attacks in Plateau State. A further five arrests were made in Benue following a more recent assault.
Police recovered two general-purpose machine guns and eight AK-47 rifles believed to have been used during the violence.
Security operations are ongoing, with authorities promising to bring all perpetrators to justice and restore calm to the affected communities.
